It syncs with the iPhone over WiFi and I've never had a problem with either version or the syncing. I know there were some issues with the first release version, but as far as my personal use they seem to have fixed all those issues. If you're just editing the local database there's no security risk, unless of course you lose you phone, but then the encryption would have to be broken or password hacked.
