Thanks Steve and all for the great info. Quick question: anyone had success on an A150 running BIOS 3309?

Mine came loaded with that, but I can't get it to dual-boot. Maybe I need to flash it back to 3304...if that's even possible. Thanks for any insight.

If people are willing to do a simple calculation, then $50 for unlimited backup is financially un-sustainable. Companies offering this kind of services must have ways to offset the cost, like Google. But online backup doesn't generate any advertisement revenue. So here you see there is (or will be) no free lunch. There are services designed for consumers, with only one computer, and not very patient to upload too much data... For really businesses, online backup is just one feature of remote storage. VOSI.biz (http://www.vosi.biz/) offers a lot of high end features designed for business customers. You get remote file server, remote FTP server, automatic remote backup, web hosting, email server and email backup services all for a low price. Better, you can use all services on any number of computers anywhere for no additional charge!

I'm a bit late replying to this post, but just had a couple of observations. I have no association with iDrive or Mozy; let me just be clear about that.

Anyhow, I have used Mozy for the Mac and the PC for a good while now. I've been using the free account with 2 gbs. I recently switched to the Mac and I've been less than impressed. The client software is pretty primitive. I was having a problem with the Mac not sleeping and it turned out to be Mozy's client software. Tech support seemed unaware of the issue even though it was well documented on the web. I had to revert to an earlier iteration of the client. But Mozy tech support seemed completely incompetent, and it took dozens of emails to even get them to understand what the issue was. I had to break through the layer of canned responses. The client doesn't even update automatically. Their website is so minimalist it's difficult to get basic information, let alone find the download page for the client software. So, I think we need to take austinkp's comments with a huge pinch of salt. So what GE is your client, or you're owned by EMC and they're a fortune 200 company? This is not evidence of having a good product actually. It's akin to saying that you're a good person because you have an impressive friend, or live in the right hood! If folks are having issues with speed and downloads past the 50 gb range on an unlimited account, then who owns you or who your high flying clients are is quite irrelevant. I'm downloading iDrive as I write this. It looks much better than Mozy for the Mac. I'm impressed by their response on this list which focused on facts relevant to their product as opposed to Mozy's response about friends and neighbourhoods.

A humble and simple suggestion:
At the end of each session simply back up your Bento database (File/Backup). You can put the backup anywhere you want (shared drive, network) and give it any name you want. If you or anyone else wants to open it from another computer, simply start Bento and go (File/Revert to Bento Backup) and open the backup file from its location. If several people use a Bento database (NOT at the same time, of course!) they just have to remember to backup at the end of their session to the backup file location everyone uses. It's just like having to save your Excel file at the end of your session.
We share a Bento DB in our office and it works a treat - and it does not need any work in Terminal.

Hi there.
There is a way to install the retail disc on a hackintosh, but it's much more involved and not something I've messed with too much.
It's much much easier to install something like kalyway.

As far as I know you need the external drive, I'm not aware of any way to do it from a flash drive.

Oh- and just as a note for other users- I'm not terribly Terminal proficient and didn't realize that the "\ " is what you put in if a directory/ filename has a space in it. Thanks for the tip above about being able to drag/drop into Terminal- very useful.

This would be SOOOO awesome if I could get it to work. I followed the instructions and everything SEEMED to be right (after a couple of attempts, I got the scripting right in Terminal and Terminal concluded by saying "ln: ./bento.bentodb: File Exists". I don't know if that means I was successful or not, but now Bento won't open- it's just hanging on the "Opening Database" progress bar. I am trying to put it on a networked drive on an airport extreme USB disk. The file appears to be there and all permissions are open. Any ideas? Also, if it doesn't work, how do I UNDO this? Thanks!

Hi,
do I have to have the kalaway mac os x from torrent sites or can I take my retail system disc from apple?
Instead of an external DVD-drive can I use a USB-stick, they did when they install mac os X on a Dell mini9?

The last time I tried VMware was the slowest of the bunch.

Sure, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to use a USB wireless.
The only drawback is that you have to make sure you have it with you, by replacing the card you don't have to worry about that. :)

Your right, its a hype all these years, and the lack of upgrades is madness, and now even the new mac mini who has his cpu solderd onto the mainboard.... (back to the stoneage), I am using now for many years macs (way back in the 80's) and pc's, I've been through all the drama of ms-dos/windows and apple os, since this morning i decided to reinstall once again ( because of unknown kernel panics) the osx 10.5.6 ideneb distro and then wait until the osx86 community releases a leopard snow edition, or i rebuild my hackintosh to specs of the HCL of EFI-X, it seems to be pretty good stuff.....
