Blog editor quest continues
Ok, so the other day I posted ‘Quest for a good Mac blog editor‘ where I outlined some of the offline blog editors I was looking at.
It’s basically come down to two of them; Qumana and Ecto.
iPhone 1.1.1 update out!
Well the (not so) long awaited iPhone update 1.1.1 is out!
We now have the WiFi music store and some other features like the home button double tap to take you to your favorites list… NICE!
I also am looking forward to the video out for it, I’ve been wanting that feature since I got the phone.
If your phone is hacked or you have 3rd party software on there you may have some issues. Apple is supposed to have a restore app available next week, but if you haven’t updated yet then you may not want to just.
Luckily I restored my phone earlier in the week to a “stock” 1.02 firmware so I didn’t have any issues at all with the update.
I’ll probably never use the WiFi music store, but I like some of the other features…. and it’s only a matter of time until someone figures out a way to get 3rd party apps back on there.
Quest for a good Mac blog editor
I like the idea of an offline blog editor much better than the online one built into blog servers. The offline ones tend to be much more robust and since I can’t spell worth a damn, the spell checker comes in handy as well.
Why I love and hate Linux
My first computer was a Timex Sinclair.
Then we got an Apple IIe my father built, then a Commodore 64, then and Amiga 500, then a PC and now I’m a Mac guy.
Before you read on, it’s not my intention to bash anything here, so no flaming please.
I don’t hate any OS (even Windows) just prefer some over others.
Somewhere in there I read about this cool new OS called Linux. This was “back in the day” so there was no GUI installer, in fact there wasn’t even a GUI.. it was all command line, but I got the damn thing installed and am very impressed with the functionality and stability, but eventually gave up on editing text files and recompiling and went back to Windows (ack!).
On-Call sucks!
Ok, at my job we rotate a Thursday to Thursday, 24 hour a day on-call period between the five of us. Things were nice and quiet all week long, notice I said things WERE nice and quiet!
Here I am up until about 12:30am working on my shiny new blog and finally fall asleep around 1:00am or so.
At 4:14am I hear this BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP… “fuuuuuuuuuu*k!”.
Not only that but it was this crazy stuff with a database table being wiped out because a DTS job failed, so I had to restore from the last backup to another server and then export the table back to the original server, but we only had a backup from the 19th, so I ended up having to rerun the job anyway. (yes that was an intentional long sentence).
Long story short (I know, too late) two hours later all was right with the world.
The good thing about being on call is I get a 1/2 day on Friday… WOO HOO!
